Bio
Kantaya New is a Thai–Singaporean female street and conceptual photographer based in Singapore.
In her street work, she notices small, funny accidents hiding in plain sight—moments when people, posters and spaces accidentally perform together, turning the street into a stage and letting ordinary life slip into something quietly surreal, humorous and tender.
Her staged photographs explore personal relationships and identity, blurring the line between reality and imagination. Some images use metaphor, juxtaposition or atmosphere to express what words cannot.
Shaped by life across Bangkok, Tokyo and Singapore, her way of seeing the world carries traces of each place she has lived.
Her work has been part of Singapore Art Week, including A Thousand Words: Photography in conTEXT at library@orchard (2023) and the forthcoming In Our Own Frame at Guoco Midtown (2026).
Her work has been recognized internationally by SONY Alpha: MX Street Photo Contest, Fujifilm Moment Street Photo Awards, LensCulture, Photolucida and the Sony World Photography Awards.
Artist Statement
Through candid street encounters and staged conceptual photographs, I explore both the playful coincidences of everyday life and the tension between human connection and emotional distance in modern life.
My ongoing series A Modern Day Affair questions the fragile intimacy between people and their devices. I stage scenes based on real experiences and feelings, using color, light and small objects to show how closeness and loneliness can exist in the same space.
